Project Description

This Patient Moving and Handling Course is aimed at meeting the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 (and subsequent amendments) that apply to Moving and Handling in the workplace. The techniques taught for patient handling are based on best international practice and evidence-based research and take into account minimal handling directives. The course combines  theory presentations, practical sessions  and group practice  and  is intended to meet the basic training requirements of Irish and European Legislation on the safe moving and handling of patients.

  • Moving & turning a Patient
  • Using a Slide Sheet Insertion x 3 Methods—Slide Sheet ( Up/Down/Side-Side)
  • Bed to Chair using Banana Board
  • Use of a Gait Belt
  • Use of a Turntable
  • Walking a Patient
  • Guiding the Fallen Patient to the Floor
  • Using a wheelchair

  • Moving a Patient up in Bed
  • Turning a Patient
  • Sitting a Patient Forward x 3 Methods
  • Slide Sheet Insertion x 3 Methods—Slide Sheet ( Up/Down/Side-Side)
  • Lie to Sit on Side of Bed
  • Bed to Chair using Banana Board
  • Sit to Stand and Stand to Sit
  • Moving a Patient Back
  • Use of a Gait Belt
  • Use of a Turntable
  • Walking a Patient
  • Guiding the Fallen Patient to the Floor
  • Coaching the Patient from Floor to Chair
  • Using  Slide Sheets to move Patient on Floor .
